Explanation text for Senior High School


What is explanation text?
↳ a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and cultural phenomena. Explanation text is to say 'why' and 'how' of the forming of the phenomena. It is often found in science,geography and history text books.


How about the social function?
↳ to explain the processes involved in the formation or working of natural or socio cultural phenomena.


Then, what are the generic structures?
1. General statement ; stating the phenomenon issues which are to be explained and to position the reader.
2. Sequenced explanation ; stating a series of steps which explain the phenomena.
3. Closing


The language features which are used?
1. Using Simple Present Tense
2. Using action verbs
3. Using passive voice
4. Using noun phrase
5. Using adverbial phrase
6. Using general and abstract noun
7. Using conjunction of time and cause-effect.
    E.g : then, next, later ( conjunction of time )
            because, so, this causes (cause-effect conjunction)
